Materials meets Tech
This masterclass will delve into the research methods and technologies behind the exhibition Aridly Abundant curated by Faysal Tabbarah, which was first exhibited at the National Pavilion UAE at Biennale Architettura 2023. The session will be presented in a format reminiscent of a cooking show. Materials and assemblies will represent the final product, with each stage of the process broken down and illustrated through samples. The facilitator, Samar Halloum, will guide participants through the project’s phases, covering the research, curatorial concept, material selection, 3D scanning, and the configuration of the stone structure. Attendees will also have the chance to test 3D scanning features on smart devices and explore how 3D printing can help reduce waste. The session aims to foster critical thinking and promote practices that are both contextually relevant and responsive to the UAE’s arid environment.
Admission is free of charge and on a first come first serve basis. This masterclass is suitable for ages 21 years and above.
