About myself
My name is Alyazia Mohammed. I am twenty-one years old. I study at Zayed University majoring in Graphic Design. At school, the only class I really paid any attention to was art. I wasn’t sure which major I wanted to choose, whether it is visual art, interior design, animation or graphic design but I knew that it had to do with art . I changed my major 5 times till I settled with graphic design since I figured I wanted to pursue a career as an art director. My influences are first and foremost everything I see, feel and experience, but I’ve always loved the impressionism and art nouveau movements. The artists I most admire are Vincent van Gogh, Roy Lichtenstein and Tim Burton.
3 ways of defining art
Art is made by a mind of someone and it expresses a meaning in it; whether it is traditional, modern or contemporary. I always stand in front of a piece and examine it piece by piece. Why did they choose this material? Does this reflect their own experience or someone else’s? And you never know, sometimes you learn new techniques, stories or a lesson from an art piece. Art is a way to escape reality; you can make up your own world.
3 reasons why I chose to apply
I chose to apply because I wanted to step out of my own comfort zone, do something I never thought I would. I wanted to take every opportunity I stumble upon so later on I won’t regret it. I have always wanted to visit Venice and what better way to go there and work for The Venice Biennale and get work experience out of the UAE. Most importantly I applied because of my grandfather (may his soul rest in peace) who told me to always take risks in life.
3 assumptions I have about Venice, Italy
I assume Venice will be full of adventures, experiences and knowledge. I would like to learn about its history, something other than what I learned from books and or saw in movies.
