    Dr Lamees Hamdan is a native of Dubai, UAE. A medical doctor by training, she graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1998.

    Her interest in dermatology led her to forming Shiffa in 2002, a luxury skin and body care company that combines the latest advances in science and dermatology using premium grade organic natural products. In 2005, she was chosen as Best Business Leader and Best Health and Wellness Company by the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Awards for Young Business Leaders.

     

    Dr Hamdan has been the Commissioner of the National Pavilion of the United Arab Emirates since the inaugural pavilion in 2009. . She spearheaded this initiative which was the first participation in la Biennale di Venezia from an Arab Gulf country. Dr Hamdan sits on the Advisory Boards of the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture in Amman and the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority and is the fund curator for the Daman Middle East Art Fund. She is an avid art collector boasting an extensive collection of contemporary Middle East art and a continuous supporter of various initiatives and publications related to Middle Eastern art. Dr Lamees Hamdan is a Board Member of the in 2010 Dr. Hamdan was bestowed with the Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity for her work spearheading the first UAE National Pavilion at the 53rd International Art Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia, 2009. The order is granted to non-Italian citizens making a significant contribution to the country.
