Who Can Participate In The Venice Internship Program?
– Our internship program is open to recent graduates and young professionals that are above the age of 21 at the time the internship begins. The internship is open to UAE nationals and long-term residents that have lived in the UAE for longer than 6 years.
– We encourage candidates from different backgrounds and academic disciplines to apply. An interest and passion in art, architecture and design is necessary.
What Is The Selection Process For The Internship?
Shortlisted applicants will be invited for an Interview in December. Both successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified of our final decision in February.
What Is The Timeline For The Internship?
– Interns will be selected in January/February. Prior to deployment in Venice all interns must attend training sessions in the UAE. Training sessions and workshops take place every other Sunday before the team departs in April/May.
– Interns are selected in batches of 3 and are sent to Venice on a 30-day rotation from April/May – November.
Are The Training Sessions Mandatory?
Yes, all interns are required to attend one day training sessions in the UAE which take place during weekends from February to April. Exact dates will be communicated to Interns once accepted to the program.
Do You Conduct Interviews Before Accepting Applicants Into The Program?
Yes, if shortlisted we contact selected candidates to partake in an interview that will either be conducted virtually or in person.
Can I Select When I Want To Go To Venice?
No. The internship department selects interns but we take availability into account.
What Should Be Included In My Cover Letter?
Your cover letter should clearly articulate and state your motivation for applying for the internship. Your cover letter should expand on experience listed in your CV that you think would be relevant to this role. It should not exceed one letter page or exceed 2MB. Please write your cover letter in a 11-point font.
I am Not an Artist Or Architect, What Should I Submit In My Portfolio?
You can submit any work that supports your application such as but not limited to; essays, previous works, university transcripts etc.
Can I apply if I am still a university student?
Yes. Please keep in mind that if availability is an issue that we might need to waitlist you if you are only able to travel for one month out of the 7.
What kind of roles and responsibilities will I have as an intern?
The roles and responsibilities of an intern differ from year to year. However; first and foremost interns are custodians of the pavilion and are ambassadors of the UAE and NPUAE mission while in Venice. We train interns before their internship deployment to make sure that all interns have the tools required to manage the exhibition on the ground.

I have not been and do not plan on getting vaccinated against Covid-19. Will I be able to participate in the internship?
Our goal is to safeguard the best interests and wellbeing of interns and team at the Pavilion. Therefore, we are unable to accept applicants that have not been vaccinated and do not have a valid exemption, at this time.
Will NPUAE help me obtain a Schengen visa?
We will assist all applicants with the required documents to obtain a visa. All applicants will need to apply for their visa appointment on their own.
Is this internship paid?
We provide a per diem for all interns.
If accepted, will I need to find accommodation in Venice?
No, we will provide housing in Venice. We also cover travel expenses, which is a return ticket from Dubai to Venice.
Will I share accommodation with anyone?
Yes, each internship rotation will consist of a group of 3 interns from the UAE. You will share accommodation with UAE interns from your fellow cohort.
Are there internship or opportunities at NPUAE after my Venice Internship period?
At this stage, we don’t have any availability, however we maintain long lasting relationships with our alumni and share job opportunities whenever they are made available to us. We are also happy to write recommendation letters to all our interns.
How will the interns be grouped for each cohort?
The selection committee will select interns according to their availability. Each cohort will include 3 interns from the UAE and 1 intern from Venice, Italy.
Will someone from the National Pavilion UAE team accompany us during our internship in Venice?
Yes, an Internship Coordinator will be in Venice throughout the exhibition duration to manage the program and support the interns during their stay in Venice.
Can I know more about the Italian intern?
A student enrolled at Ca’ Foscari University, a university in Venice, studying Middle Eastern Studies and Languages will be nominated for each batch throughout the internship duration, providing an opportunity for interns from the UAE and Italy to learn more each other’s cultures.
I’m an Italian student enrolled in Ca’ Foscari University and would like to be a part of the internship – how can I apply?
Applications for Italian students open in February. An email will be sent out to your faculty at Ca’ Foscari University. Please get in touch with us if you’d like to know more about the internship. Kindly note that at this time the Internship is only eligible to students enrolled at the following departments; Department of Comparative Linguistic and Cultural Studies, Department of Philosophy and Cultural Heritage, Department of Languages, Cultures, and Societies of Asia and the Mediterranean Africa (Middle East Studies and Languages curriculum).
